Bighearted Kids Give to FD NOW

Kids who selflessly give of their time and energy for the benefit of others quickly learn the pure joy of philanthropy. At FD NOW, we nurture kids’ desire to make a positive difference.  We take the time to teach kids how their endeavor directly benefits those with FD and we provide a certificate of appreciation to underscore their contribution. If you know a child who is inspired to help those with FD, we will foster their kindheartedness. Here are a few examples of bighearted kids who have helped those with FD:

Austin Woodruff, at age 12, raised over $2,500 at his fundraiser which he called “The Shearing.”  “There are not many ways that I can help my friend Andrew, who has FD, except to visit when he's in the hospital, or hang out. Then I had this great idea!  I have been growing my hair for two years to donate it to chemotherapy patients. I organized a fundraiser to watch my hair get cut, and took all the proceeds and donated them to Andrew's research organization!  Thank you, Austin!

Children attending the Bright Horizons day care learning center raised over $400 in two weeks by accumulating their pocket change. Thank you, Katie Rieger, for organizing this collection.

Jordan Sheinkop, at age 13, raised close to $200 by donating a Phil Simms signed football and playing card to an FD NOW fundraiser. “As part of my Jewish heritage, I will become a Bar Mitzvah. This is both an exciting and important time in my life. A primary responsibility in becoming a B’nei Mitzvah is to do charity work and good deeds for others, also known as a Mitzvah project. The Mitzvah project that I have focused my efforts on is to raise awareness and proceeds for FD. My 14 year-old cousin Scott has FD. To meet my goals for this Mitzvah project I began collecting sports memorabilia by writing letters and talking to anyone willing to help. In the end, it is my intention to auction away the items I have collected, and to donate 100% of the proceeds to an organization committed to curing FD.”  Thank you, Jordy!  We can’t wait to see what else you’ll collect and donate.

Aryeh Bodner, at age 14, raised over $1,000  at his school, the DRS HALB Yeshiva High School for Boys. Aryeh exhibited his compassion by creating a flyer about FD, and then went from class to class selling Golf Outing raffle tickets. Thank you, Aryeh and thank you to the entire high school student body for their much-needed support to fund research for this orphan disease.
